OACC as a "congress" is distinguished clearly from a run-of-the-mill "conference" in that it is a gathering of peers (not just conference attendees passively consuming information from paid "experts" and "professionals") who inexpensively and on a volunteer basis organize and conduct the event themselves as a temporary green "village," take care of themselves (preparing food, providing their own entertainment and presentations from within the group itself, cleaning up, etc.), and decide among themselves by consensus the present and future directions and content of OACC as an informal "organization."<BR>

Back in October of 1980, the Ozark Area Community Congress/OACC/"OAK" started out as a self-organizing assembly of peers: a CONGRESS. On the spot, from amidst our group of 135 folks, we developed our own content, our own interest groups, workshops and presentations. The quality of information, energy, and inspiration was extraordinary! Though we had, back in 1980, never heard of "Open Space" meeting process, OACC I was essentially that.<BR>

<BR>
OACCs II, III, and IV (1981-3) essentially followed this spontaneous "self-organizing" mode, but after that we gradually drifted into a more pre-structured "conference-style," though our presenters were not paid. <BR>

What OACC 25 agreed to (in its Oct. 2004 Sunday Plenary) was for the next OACC - OACC 26 – to return to this "open space" mode. <BR>

Over the 25 previous OACCs we have found that without fail that the majority of OACC attendees (you) are extraordinary, innovative, self-motivated, highly intelligent and informed people, most of whom are fully capable of making a truly interesting and informative presentation. <BR>
