We expect about 300 deliveries, and we need help. We'll meet that morning at 9 AM at the Dorothy Day Center at St. Charles parish, 4909 N State Street. Bring friends to help! The weather isn't looking especially good that day, we seem to be having a "Seattle Spring", little sunshine, its still cold. A PERSONAL UPDATE On March 5, I went to the emergency room of St. Anthony's hospital due to chest pains. I had been getting the pains for about 2 weeks, but was thinking, "You are just out of shape, you need to exercise more." Well, that was true, but there was more going on than simply being out of shape. Anyway, that evening I took some compost out, came back in and had to sit down I was so out of breath and my chest hurt. Sean came in my office and said, "What's wrong with you?" and I told him about the chest pains. He insisted that we go to the emergency room, and it was a good thing we did. I did not have an actual heart attack, but was headed that way fast. I was admitted to the hospital that evening, and the next day underwent a heart catheterization, which found one artery almost completely blocked, and a second artery about 90% closed, so six stents were inserted, 4 in one, 2 in the other. I was released the next day, and have been easing back into my regular schedule. I actually feel better than I have in quite some time (as the cardiologist said, it's amazing what a little roto-rooter and some chain link fence will do). This happened at a typically busy time for me. The Oklahoma Food Coop's annual meeting was Saturday Mar 6. The students from Creighton also arrived that day. They went to the annual meeting and then Marcus Evans took them home for the night. They moved in with us Sunday evening, after I got out of the hospital, and they were great nursemaids for me in my first week of recovery. I am always impressed by the willingness of Creighton students to NOT go to the beach for Spring Break but instead end up at places like our house, doing works of mercy, justice, and peace. They worked real hard that week, and God bless them for the generosity of their hearts.
