OKC Catholic Worker newspaper
We are no longer printing and mailing our tabloid newspaper, the OKC
Catholic Worker. (Reasons are "money and time", as in "more requests for
help, less donations", which seems to be a common story these days). So
we are adapting as the society around us devolves. Now we are producing
a legal-size monthly newsletter which we primarily distribute in the
bags of groceries we deliver each month, and it is directed at those
whom we accompany in their journeys of poverty. We are linking PDF's
online at our website, www.justpeace.org . The most recent (February
2010) is at http://www.justpeace.org/okccathworkerfeb2010.pdf .
Christmas 2009 --
http://www.justpeace.org/okccathworkerchristmas2009.pdf . January 2010
-- http://www.justpeace.org/okccathworkerjan2010.pdf. We aren't mailing
any out but folks should feel free to print their own copy and make
copies to give to others if they so desire.
Jesus Prayer
We're inviting folks to pray the Jesus Prayer during Lent -- "Lord Jesus
Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner." I've written music for
it if folks want to sing it -- http://www.justpeace.org/jesusprayer.pdf
and you can listen to the choir and congregation at Epiphany Church in
Oklahoma City singing it at Communion on Ash Wednesday --
http://www.justpeace.org/JesusPrayer.MP3 . It's shareright for everyone,
so make copies if you want. As St. Augustine said, "Those who sing, pray
twice."
In Memory
Mark Scibilia-Carver asked me to put a page at our Justpeace website to
specifically honor Catholics killed in the unjust wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. So we are collaborating on a project to find the names and
information about Catholics killed in the wras in Iraq and Afghanistan,
soldiers and civilians. It is online at
http://www.justpeace.org/inmemory.htm . We invite everyone to send us
names of Catholics they know of who were killed in these wars, and to
help research. Generally, we are looking at online directories of
people who have been killed in the wars and then doing an internet
search for their obituary, which tells us if they are Catholic or not.
Mark is working on New York, but all the other states are open if people
want to adopt a state.
We know that all who died in these wars are precious, but we are
thinking that eventually we will go to a bishops' meeting and present
them with a list of those whose lives they could have saved if they had
followed the courageous example of the Most Reverend Michael Botean and
done more to prevent those subject to their ecclesiastical jurisdiction
from participating in those wars. If possible, we'd like their names,
rank/service branch, when and where killed, parish of the funeral, and
anything else people might want to include. The list isn't long yet,
but even as it is, reading it is a sobering reality experience.

Abbey of Our Lady of the Annunciation of Clear Creek
On a more happy note, the Monastery of Our Lady of the Annunciation of
Clear Creek, which is a new Benedictine foundation from the Abbey of
Fontgombault in France, has been elevated to the status of Abbey. I
have been visiting there since they first arrived, and they are very
aware of Dorothy Day and the charism of the Catholic Worker movement and
have been very hospitable to us. They are online at
http://www.clearcreekmonks.org .
Please pray for us as we pray for all y'all.
