[Announce] Build a window box solar heater October 13th

Every year in the middle of winter I get worried
about how low income people will pay their heating
bills, and I always think about building window
box solar heaters. But this is typically too late
in the winter to do anything about building them
for that winter. So I decided to get ahead of
myself a bit.

On October 13th, I am getting together with Bruce
Johnson of the Homestead School and we are going
to build a thermosiphon window box solar heater,
similar to the one described at this url
http://www.jrwhipple.com/sr/solheater.html .

Our purposes are to learn how to build one of
these heaters and then see if it works well enough
to make a difference in heating a home. By
building one, we will also get some ideas about
how to scale up production to make several. If
it turns out these little units produce enough
heat to be useful in the winter, in November you
will probably hear about a work day or two to
build a bunch of these for low income people. (I
will also be doing fundraising to get money to buy
the materials.)

If you would like to join us, meet us at 9 AM on
October 13th, at the Dorothy Day Center, 4909 N
State Street in Oklahoma City.

Note that this is not a workshop where we will
describe to you something we have already done,
but rather an opportunity for us to learn together
how to do this kind of project. If you need more
information, email me at bwaldrop at cox.net . I'd
also like RSVP's if possible so I know how much
food to bring. (Yes, a secondary benefit of
attending the workshop is some of my home
cookin'.)
