I went by to see Mrs. Jones today, I have written before about her. She is an elderly African American woman who lived alone with several dogs in the Walnut Grove area, who was relocated by the state to another neighborhood to make way for the Crosstown freeway relocation project. Any Creighton alumni of the service trips to OKC who subscribes here has met her.

I went by to see her today, and as I was unloading groceries and dog food, a neighbor came over and said she was gone. There was an ambulence, police, health department, and the dog catcher. He said she was screaming, "This is my house, you can't force me to go", but they put her in an ambulence and away they went and the neighbor said "We haven't seen anybody there since." Animal Control got all the dogs except one, Stranger, one of the younger dogs, the neighbor said "the dog man can't catch him, some of the other neighbors feed him."

Also, Daniel, who used to live with us, is in Baptist Hospital. he had nine serious abscesses in his teeth, they have taken out the teeth, but they have him hooked up to IV antibiotics and he will be there another day or so. I spoke with the nurse and she said that the Baptist hospital case managers would interview him Monday AM to see what they could do for him.

These are hard times for some of our people, so please keep these people in your prayers.

Here is a prayer for the homeless, authorship unknown, which Sister Barbara put on the program for the funeral of Steve, that I wrote about last week:

Lord, no one is a stranger to you and
no one is ever far from your loving care.
In your kindness watch over refugees, exiles,
and the homeless, those separated from their loved ones,
young people who are lost, and
those who have left or run away from home.
Protect those who are without shelter and on the streets.
Bring them back safely to the place where they long to be.
Help us always to show your kindness to strangers
and to those in need. Amen.
