Please pass this news along to anyone you know or
have contacts with who lives in Nebraska.
The Nebraska Food Cooperative is open for business
and is conducting its first monthly order-delivery
cycle of locally produced Nebraska foods during
the month of July. Below is the announcement they
are sending around.
The NFC is modelled after the Oklahoma Food
Cooperative, and is using the Oklahoma Food
Cooperative's Local Food Cooperative Management
System computer software, which we are making
available free of charge to other such
cooperatives via the General Public License system
(that means that nobody can copyright the system).

We invite all members to
1. shop the Web site:
http://www.nebraskafood.org/shop

3. try out the order process, and
4. give us lots of feedback on ways to make it

We anticipate several more producers will add
their information during the week of July 17, so
check back more than once. Remember, however: no
orders can be processed after the cut-off time,
Sunday, July 23, 10 pm central. (This cut-off time
will give producers time to get invoices and
orders ready for the delivery date.)

Background and details
After over a year of volunteers working together
on planning, meeting, conference calling, and
meeting some more, we have finally reached the
point to "try our wings" and celebrate LOCAL FOOD!
We're still at beginner stage, with a small number
of producers in the database at this point, but we
want to try a "soft opening," so that all of us
beginning members can see, on a smaller scale,
what kinks and problems crop up, as we go through
the paces together.
Once the first order cycle is under our belts, we
anticipate adding lots more producers, which will
translate into lots more products to choose from.
If you haven't yet sent in your membership fee,
now is the time to do so, as only members are able
to place orders!
We're excited! We hope you are too! This is the
very beginning- the ground floor of something that
we think will GROW, and grow quickly. It will
take effort and patience on everyone's part to
help the Cooperative grow and succeed, but we
Nebraskans are up to the challenge!
In anticipation of good things to come,
Randy Wattermann, Board Chair
Shannon Moncure, Membership Chair
